Volubolis is the best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, just north of the city of Meknes. It was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1997. Volubolis dates largely from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, although the site was originally settled in the 3rd century BC. At it's peak, Volubolis probably housed up to 20,000 people. We wandered among the ruins just before sunset, then hoped and prayed we could find a way to Fes that night. We did. Of course.
