Surreal Florida

I've traveled to florida to present some work. (*1) The trip was overall nice, although I didn't get so much out of the conference & the time out of classes cost me. It felt good to be back in the South, even if Florida is its own place. The highlight of the trip (besides presenting!) was my visit to the Salvador Dali museum in St. Petersburg. Dali's personal benefactors established this museum because they didn't want to break up their collection of over 100 Dali originals. The museum was phenomenal. I'd been before, but was happy to return. Unfortunately, two of my favorite paintings (*2) were off traveling :-(

But alas, the Hallucinogenic Toreador was still there. I expected this, since moving the 13 ft tall > 100 million $ painting would get some press and I'd heard none. (*3)
Last time I'd been down, my bro Sean & I went down to see the Space Shuttle Endeavor launch out of Kennedy. That was Really impressive. The first 30 seconds after lift off, we were very disappointed; the rocket looked like a Roman Candle from about 10 yards away. Then the Sound arrived. It totally changed my impression, since we were about 7 miles from the launch site & it was Loud! Like two or 3 times as loud as being on an airliner. No Shuttle this time, but I was able to meet Dana's grandfather & visit with her mothers and grandmother.

The Hyatt Sarasota was really nice. Here's a view off our balcony:

on Wednsday, Dana and I are traveling to Kentucky to see my attorney get hitched.
